We will be making the observation from the play ground.

We will be using the following instruments:
Max/min thermometer
Rain gauge
Anemometer
Wet and dry bulb thermometer in Stevenson screen
Information from local met station.

The weather we expect in January/early February is very hot and dry.

Year 8 Students

================
Two Boats School is currently involved in an International Metlink Project.
Years Eight and Nine have been divided into groups each group being responsible
for recording a certain measurement. Our group is responsible for taking the
Relative Humidity reading. Everyday at one o'clock we take the wet and dry
temperatures. On a chart we use the dry reading and the difference between
that and the wet reading to find the percentage of water in the air. This is
the Relative Humidity. The data from all the readings is entered onto the
Metlink website and sent to Reading.

Our group consists of: Toni Bendall, Deon Maggott and Shaun Stevens.
Comment: We as a group think that this project will be very beneficial to all
the schools involved. It will bring the schools together and allow them to
share information over the Web. We think that it is a step in the right
direction for the new Millennium.

WIND

In the Metlink Weather Project my group is in charge of the wind direction.
In my group there is Steve, Kelly and myself. We used an instrument called a
windsock. I think the Weather project is a good opportunity for schools to
communicate with each other.

CLOUD

For the Metlink weather project my group and I are responsible for measuring
cloud cover. In my group there are three people Shanade, Aaron and myself.
To measure cloud cover we look at the clouds and compare the cloud cover to
the cloud cover chart. I think this weather project is a good opportunity for
Ascension to be recognized by other parts of the world.

WIND SPEED

We are taking part in a Met Link weather project. In our group of three,
Chantelle, Jodi and Jackson, we are responsible for measuring the wind speed.
To do this we use an anemometer to measure the speed of the wind. Because we
don't have heavy winds, we use the scale that shows low wind speed. Usually we
have winds between 0 and 3 on the Beaufort wind scale, which goes from calm to
gentle breeze.

I think the Metlink International weather project is very interesting and a
great opportunity for Two Boats School. This can help us to learn about the
different weather in other parts of the world.

PRESSURE

Two Boats School is involved in a Metlink project all over the world. Year 9
and Year 8 have been split up into groups and each group is responsible for a
different type of weather instrument. My associate Justine Yon and myself
Daryl Sim are responsible for measuring Sea Level Pressure. At the school they
do not have the facilities the Sea Level Pressure, so every lunchtime my
associate and I will ring the Met office and ask them for the Sea Level
Pressure. I think the school is very lucky to be involved in a big project all
over the world, it is good to see a small island like Ascension to be
recognised by other countries.

PRECIPITATION

My group is in charge of precipitation. In my group there are three people
Leroy Fowler, Karl Yon and Renee Thomas. Every afternoon at 1:00 we go to the
rain gauge to measure the level of rainwater. There is not much rain on this
Island so the rain gauge is usually empty. We then go to the I.T room to use
the Internet, and then enter are results into the database.

I think this International weather project is a good opportunity for Ascension
Island to participate in, as we are such a small community, which not many
people know about. It is very interesting to communicate with the other parts
of the world and find out how their weather differs from ours.

TEMPERATURE

In my group there is Natasha William, Jamie Maggott and me Sara Thomas.
My group is in charge of the temperature, Maximum, Minimum and current. We go
and check the temperature at 1:00pm everyday. First we check the Minimum
temperature which is the blue thermometer, then the current temperature which
is the red thermometer and the Maximum temperature which is the short red one.
We record the results on a table then we entered them on the Metlink database.

I think this International weather project is a good opportunity for Ascension
Island because it gives the chance for us to be recognized worldwide. It is
very interesting to note the various types of weather for different countries
and gives us a better knowledge of schools different to ours
